Lab testing is an important component of any medical practice. In addition to traditional lab tests, we are certified to perform some tests in the office which is generally far less expensive and much more convenient for our patients. Some tests are best performed by specialized labs, and we work with several.
We complete most common in-office lab testing, such as:
Fecal Occult Blood
As a component of our Women’s Health program, we are able to collect specimens for PAP and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) during your exam. These are sent to a lab for analysis.
For conventional lab testing, we generally refer to Sonora Quest or to Lab Corp when a patient has health insurance which is likely to cover the cost of testing. For patients on Medicare or Medicaid (AHCCCS), it is best to have your primary care provider of record request the tests.
For patients who lack health insurance, we work with Ulta Labs to arrange for testing at a small fraction of the price usually paid to labs, but with the same quality and confidence.
Did you get labs done on your own but don’t know how to read the report(s)? No problem – bring it in and we will help explain it to you.
Specialized Lab Tests
Specialized Lab Testing
Through arrangements with carefully vetted partners, we offer specialized testing, including:
Food Allergy Testing
This is a comprehensive analysis of the foods to which you may have developed an allergy.
People who benefit most from this testing experience nausea and bloating after eating certain foods.
Commonly, these people have frequent diarrhea that is fatty and foul-smelling.
Comprehensive Stool Analysis
This analysis of fecal matter will help to determine whether a person is not digesting certain foodstuffs.
If so, we can treat with a specific type of probiotic or digestive enzyme.
People may become deficient in specific nutrients due to chronic illness, severe dieting, or other conditions.
Deficiency of some nutrients can be debilitating:
Iron deficiency causes anemia
Folate deficiency causes birth defects
B12 deficiency causes fatigue
Vitamin D deficiency may contribute to
Chronic or repetitive infectious diseases;
Salivary Hormone Testing
Hormones are chemical signaling agents in the body
Deficiencies or excesses can have debilitating effects, such as:
Low Testosterone – loss of libido and energy
High Estradiol – increased risk of breast cancer
High Cortisol – your stress hormone; responsible for weight gain
We are convinced that the accuracy of some testing is enhanced when completed at a specialty lab, so we work with several. For example, we provide testosterone therapy to both men and women who need it and require monitoring of testosterone levels during and after therapy. Conventional labs are perfectly willing to puncture a vein and collect blood for analysis. However, there are two potential issues with this (besides patient discomfort): 1) Testosterone levels fluctuate during the day, so samples must be collected first thing in the morning; 2) Serum levels tend to be most accurate for transdermal gel delivery of testosterone, but less so for hormone given under the skin or into a muscle. Specialty labs take this into consideration.
Labs we work with, and the tests we usually ask them to perform, include:
Labrix/Doctor’s Data – Hormones and neurotransmitters; Cortisol
ZRT – Hormones and neurotransmitters; Cortisol
Immunolabs – Food Allergy
In-Wellness Labs – General Allergy
Global Lyme Diagnostics – Lyme Disease
Spectracell – Cell nutrients
Laboratory for Advanced Medicine (IVY Gene) – Cancer Testing Breast, Colon, Liver, Lungs
Cologuard – Colon Cancer Screening
Genetic Testing for Weight Management
Genetic Testing is beneficial in helping to assess many chronic conditions.
Copper Valley works with Kashi Labs to offer genetic testing for weight management.
We offer to test for Liver, Lung, Colon, and Brain Cancer through Ivy Gene tests
Imaging studies are important to physicians for diagnosing conditions that range from a sprained ankle to gallstones (cholelithiasis). We work with both conventional and specialty imaging centers, including:
SimonMed, EVDI, and AzTech – X-rays, MRIs, Ultrasound, Mammograms
First Sense Medical – Breast Health Thermology for young women (poor candidates for mammography) as an adjunct to other evaluation methods.
